Crock pot bbq chicken is one of our family’s favorite recipes to make. It’s easy to prep and makes tons of leftovers, so it’s the perfect meal prep recipe for busy weeks!
It’s also a great recipe to serve at parties or picnics since it keeps well in the slow cooker for hours on “keep warm” mode. Simply pull it out of the crock pot and serve with all the fixings like corn on the cob, chips, a salad, and pickles!
How to Shred BBQ Chicken in the Crockpot
After cooking, remove the chicken from the crock pot and use two forks to shred it. Then place it back in the crockpot and stir to mix it in with the sauce.
The shredded chicken is very juicy and incredibly flavorful! It’s the perfect addition to sandwiches, tacos, bowls, or even as a pizza topping!
Leftover shredded chicken can be reheated in the microwave or on the stovetop. It also freezes well in an airtight container for up to 3 months!
Using Your Favorite Barbeque Sauce
If you want a slightly more spicy version of this barbecue chicken, add a bit of cayenne pepper and/or hot sauce. You can also play around with different flavors of BBQ sauce – try adding molasses for a sweet kick, or add fruit to create a fruity barbecue chicken recipe!
How to Cook in the Crockpot
To prepare this simple slow cooker barbecue chicken recipe, simply combine barbecue sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, garlic powder, and pepper flakes in a bowl until sugar dissolves. Then nestle the chicken breast halves into the sauce and cook on Low for 4 to 6 hours or High for 3 to 4 hours.
