It’s almost impossible to travel across America without tasting some delicious barbecue. From the beef-centric brisket of Texas to the burnt ends of Kansas City to the tart or sweet pork of the Carolinas, barbeque is a national food. But not all barbecue is created equal, which is why Yelp has compiled its list of the top 100 barbecue spots for 2024.
The review site gathered its list by reviewing restaurants in the barbecue category that also had high ratings and volumes of reviews that mentioned the word “barbecue.” Yelp determined each restaurant’s ranking by analyzing the total number of ratings and average score. If a restaurant had multiple locations, Yelp gave the rank to its highest-rated location.
Wright’s Barbecue in Johnson, Arkansas, took the top spot while CorkScrew BBQ in Spring, Texas, claimed second. Other restaurants in the top 100 included Hog Wild Bar-B-Que in Placerville (39th), Moonie’s Texas Barbeque in Marietta (40th), and B.T.’s Smokehouse in San Diego (43rd).
Not all the barbecue joints on the list serve traditional dishes, with some serving up unique twists on classic American favorites. For instance, the top-ranked spot in California, Swingin’ Door Texas BBQ, serves up brisket and pulled pork topped with a savory smoky sauce on top of mac & cheese, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes & gravy. And Moonie’s offers a unique take on Southern barbecue with the Smokehouse Special, which includes smoked turkey breast and a pound of chicken.
