A Guide to Barbeque Food

There’s something magical about crisp-edged charred meat smothered in deeply flavourful homemade barbecue sauce. Whether you prefer the acidity of Eastern Carolina-style pork or the slow smoked brisket of Texas-style BBQ, there’s a delicious barbecue recipe to suit everyone.

This collection of barbeque recipes includes classics such as sticky ribs, tender pulled pork and smoky grilled chicken wings. But it also includes some of our more innovative ideas – from peri peri marinated brisket to jerked shrimp and even a barbeque salad.

A barbecue is the perfect way to bring people together. It’s easy to tailor the menu to suit your guests – for example you might serve a variety of barbecued sausages such as bratwurst and chicken sausage alongside a selection of delicious burgers with different toppings.

Vegetables are a staple of the BBQ and there are many delicious ways to cook them. Try roasting eggplant, tomatoes and red bell peppers on the barbecue for a delicious vegetable side dish or make a vegetarian-friendly slaw with shredded cabbage, carrots, onions and parsley bound together with garlic butter and lemon juice and topped with chopped parmesan cheese.

There are many meat free options too – try a grilled halloumi sandwich, or skewers of grilled marinated tofu, grilled cauliflower steak and pineapple. You can also grill sliced mushrooms, sweetcorn on the cob and bake slices of avocado in the oven for a healthy twist on the traditional potato salad. There are plenty of desserts that can be made using a barbeque too, from banana boats to grilled strawberries with coconut ice cream.
